Last Tuesday 22nd March the Aviva stadium, Dublin was packed with publicans, off licence owners, retailers along with staff from Molson Coors eagerly awaiting the arrival of ex football legends. Following the success of last year’s Carling Legends event we were asked if we would run the event again this year. We of course said yes and began our search for football legends to replace last year’s stars; John Barnes, Ray Houghton, Andy Cole and Bryan Robson.
At the event last week were ex Liverpool players Dietmar Hamann and Ronnie Whelan and from the opposing side Teddy Sheringham and Dwight Yorke from Manchester United. As you can imagine there were some heated conversions and audience input during the discussion panel hosted by RTE presenter Darragh Maloney. The former footballers reminisced over previous games, incidents and glory moments before a brief Q&A with the excited audience. Following the Q&A session attendees had the opportunity to get autographs and photographs with the footballers. Many of which brought football shirts, books and match tickets to be signed, one guest had all the players sign the shirt he was wearing.
Also entertaining the crowd at the beginning and end of the event was the UK no.1 football impressionist Darren Farley. Farley had the audience in fits of laugher with his top notch impressions of Brendan Rodgers, Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen to name a few. Meanwhile, mingling around and astounding individuals throughout the evening with his second to none magic tricks was Rodd Hogg, one of Ireland’s most sought after, and most exciting professional magicians.
The entire evening was a great success for both Carling and Walkers. We had a total of 500 people at the event this year, more than double the amount from last year. We received fantastic feedback from both attendees and the Carling staff present at the event. Already those who didn’t attend have asked how they can get an invite for next year due to the response from their fellow colleagues and friends. Thanks to Carling for asking Walkers to manage the event for a second year. Here’s to many more legendary nights out.
