Super Bowl Ads Cost More Than Ever

Super Bowl Ads Cost More Than Ever

The NFL will celebrate its 50th Super Bowl this Sunday, an event as famous for its legendary half-time entertainment as for the action on the field. While some people are genuinely interested in the outcome of the Super Bowl, others see it as a time to get together with friends and watch hilarious and unique commercials that advertisers bring out once a year and pay a pretty penny to show off.

According to Kantar Media, the price of Super Bowl ads has increased 76 percent during the past decade. In 2015, advertisers were spending an average of $4.4 million for 30-second Super Bowl spots. This year, the same 30-second slot will have cost a company up to $5 million, according to Fortune. For advertisers, the cost of a time slot essentially amounts to an investment. Because as the price of Super Bowl ads has increased, so has the event’s average TV audience. Last year, Super Bowl XLIX boasted an average audience of 114.4 million viewers, up from 112.2 million the year before.

The game will start at 15.30 Pacific Time this Sunday 7th February, 23.30 our time. So, for those of you planning to watch the game, you might want to book the next day off work. The game is being televised on the BBC, for the first time since 2008. Catch it on BBC Two from 22:50. However, if you only watch the Superbowl for the ads you won’t see them here. Instead tune into Sky Sports 1 HD and Sky Sports 3 HD who will be showing live coverage of the game beginning at 10pm. And yes, you can watch the UK ads here as well as Beyonce and Coldplay’s half-time entertainment live from Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco.

If you can’t wait take a sneak peek at a few you’re likely to see on Sunday:
