Artplan and AfroReggae have created the “Calendar of freedom” Each calendar page is a striking portrait of an ex-prisoners overlaid with tally marks representing the dates. Even after doing time, former convicts are still seen with prejudice by the labor market. Each negative response that an ex-convict receives in a job interview makes him feel trapped to his past. As they put it ‘For an ex-con, each day of prejudice is one more day without freedom’. 600 calendars were sent to HR directors and entrepreneurs, an exhibition organised and a mobile site created to tell the ex-prisoners story. As a result 9 of the 12 were hired with many companies interested in a partnership.
