Living in Hong-Kong no doubt inspired German-born photographer photographer Michael Wolf into creating this project which poses questions like ‘How many people can live together in one building?’, ‘What is life like in these mega structures?’ and ’Surely there’s a bit of Photoshop going on here?’
His close-cropped depictions of the urban landscape around him produce, what at first glance, can appear to be simple geometric abstract patterns. It’s only when you look closer and you see evidence of daily life like washing hung-out of windows to dry that you realise these are Mega Cities of Judge Dredd proportions.

From his bio: “the focus of the german photographer Michael Wolf’s work is life in mega cities. many of his projects document the architecture and the vernacular culture of metropolises. wolf grew up in canada, europe and the united states, studying at uc berkeley and at the folkwang school with otto steinert in essen, germany. he moved to hong kong in 1994 where he worked for 8 years as contract photographer for stern magazine. since 2001, wolf has been focusing on his own projects, many of which have been published as books.”
